Networks are an interconnection of computers. These computers can be linked together using a wide variety of different cabling types, and for a wide variety of different cabling types, and for a wide variety of different purposes.
There are several reasons why computers are networked with each other. One of these reasons is to share resources such as files, printers, modem, fax machines, etc. Another reason is to share application software. To increase productivity or by making it easier to share data amongst users.
Imagine the benefits of a user being able to directly fax the Word document they are working on, rather than print it out, then feed it into the fax machine, dial the number etc.
This paper presents the preliminary design method on how to design a LOCAL AREA NETWORK.
A LAN that will enable any user in an office building to connect, retrieve, transfer and share files to any user in any location within the scope of the LAN. This design allows communication between computer to computer and relays files or information within its geographical stretch.
This paper report includes preliminary design method and basic Local Area Network theories and applications. Hardware and software information are also included in this paper report. I have provided the reader all, if not most, the information about Local Area Network and theories and principles about LAN design.
I started this design from a scrape to its highly technical networking state. I implemented some design activities only for theoretical purposes to come up with a good LAN design document. My design title is LAN for REANET PHILS. INC.
I am confident that after reading this paper, the reader will already know what a LAN is and its basic design methods.
